In the early 1900's, British orchid enthusiast Sir Charles Lankester was knighted for his knowledge and discovery of orchid propagation. It was Lankester who designed the gardens for his daughter, planting thousands of native and exotic trees, orchids, and other plants.
The main house itself was built in the mid 70's and is in excellent condition, with all utilities upgraded to current standards. Previously operating as an exotic bird sanctuary, the space is currently used as a holistic Bed and Breakfast business and is perfect for accommodating groups of people for workshops and seminars.
In addition to its rich history, the property is unique in that you are nestled within a lush tropical rainforest in the middle of urban Alajuela, 5 minutes to the International Airport and downtown Alajuela. Situated on an eight acre nature reserve with natural springs feeding the swimming pool, drinking water, and irrigation, the estate is surrounded by old growth exotic hardwoods and fruit trees. In addition to all of its natural wonders, the property also supports a large organic vegetable farm. With an abundance of walking paths and secret trails, one truly feels encompassed by the tranquility of the forest rather than the heart of a city.
What people are saying:
This is truly a magical sanctuary. It is hard to believe that in the center of Alajuela lies this incredible tropical forest - overflowing with abundant green growth, bamboo and fruit trees. The spring fed pool was incredible and I would recommend this place to anyone as a great landing spot for your time in Costa Rica -- Julie
It's such a beautiful peaceful place to stay. It's close to the airport yet an oasis and retreat from the busyness surrounding it. The grounds are gorgeous and lush and offer peaceful walks and time. -- Donna C.
One of the most exquisite places in Costa Rica, and to think it is only FIVE MINUTES from the main airport! Highly Reccomended to the Conscious Traveler! They even have organic meals, and exceptional water to drink and swim in! -- Shondra R.
I really enjoyed my short stay here. It is truly an oasis. It’s a very short drive from the SJO airport. Carol is a very gracious and hospitable host. If you’re looking for a time to wind down and connect with nature, I different recommend staying at this space. -- Amanda
I don't know where to start. First of all this was a Paradise Bed and Breakfast within Costa Rica, way more than I expected! Carol was the most gracious host ever and treated us like family. Her grounds are amazing with all the vegetables and fruits grown on the premises and with these she made the best tropical breakfast and dinners. We will absolutely stay here again on our next visit and less than 10 minutes from the San Jose easy to find. A must stay for anyone's first time in Costa Rica or returning. -- Jasmine
